Progress, updated Oct 28, 2026
CaseWizard, measured.
What we changed, what it did, and how we know. Every number on this page comes from a change we shipped, and each one says how it was measured.
October 2026
Before and after.
In October we went looking for every wait in CaseWizard: lists, case pages, sign-in, billing runs and background jobs. Here is what changed.
First page of the time list
A firm with 100,000 time entries.
Before37 msAfter0.09 ms411× faster
Tab lists loaded when a case opens
Liens, charges, expenses and the rest now wait for their tab.
Before10 listsAfter0 lists10 fewer requests
Round trips to keep you signed in
Refreshing a session token.
Before7 tripsAfter2 trips5 fewer
Pre-bills written at once
Batch Prebills, after one bulk read per table.
Before1 at a timeAfter4 at a time4× the throughput
Wait between progress checks
Batch and Download Prebills now show progress as they run.
Before1.5 sAfter0.75 sTwice as often
Documents generated at once
Merges, exports and PDFs on the output worker.
Before1 jobsAfter2 jobsTwice the throughput
Webhook subscribers served at once
Each subscription still receives events in order.

Since May
Every day of work.
One square per day, one column per week. The darker the square, the more changed that day.

Faster
Long lists open instantly
New indexes for the time, payment, expense and pre-bill lists. The first page of a 100,000-entry time list went from 37 ms to 0.09 ms, and the database checks which firm a row belongs to once per query instead of once per row.
Faster
Cases open with fewer requests
Liens, charges, expenses, injuries and the other tab lists load when you open their tab, not all at once when the case opens. The case summary still loads straight away.

Faster
Quicker sign-in and session checks
Keeping you signed in takes 2 round trips instead of 7. Your profile and permissions load together, and the users and roles lists each load in one query per page.
Faster
More work in parallel
Two documents generate at once instead of one, webhooks reach five subscribers at once, report sections run four at a time, and billing reads every invoice's money in one batch.
Faster
Smaller responses, fewer lookups
Responses are compressed with Brotli or gzip. Document merges, case details and the calendar feed skip lookups they had already made.

Faster
Batch Prebills shows its progress
Batch Prebills and Download Prebills read their data in bulk and write four pre-bills at a time. Both now show progress while they run.
New
Select and delete pre-bills in bulk
Pick several pre-bills, or all of them, and delete them in one step.

New
Sort cases by any column
Click any column header in the Cases list to sort by it.

New
Follow every retainer dollar
Each billing entity has a transaction history, and each retainer ledger entry shows where the money went.

New
A weekly What's new
Small updates roll up into one weekly note inside the app, so you can see what changed without reading release notes.

New
Sign in to the Word add-in with a passkey
The redesigned Word add-in signs in with a short device code, so passkeys work there too.

New
Merge case data in Word
Insert merge fields from your case data while you draft in Word. Fields that are still empty are highlighted before you send.
New
Vote on what we build next
Post a feature request, vote, comment and follow the ones you care about.
Better
Permission changes apply straight away
When an admin changes a role, people see the change without signing out or reloading.
Early access
A new look, on the way.
Alongside the speed work we are redrawing every screen. Fields, buttons and addresses stay where your team knows them; type, spacing and colour are new, with a day and a night theme. It is in early access while we finish the remaining screens. Every other screenshot on this site is CaseWizard as firms use it today.

Method
How we measure.
- Timings
- Measured on a development machine against a firm with production-sized data, such as 100,000 time entries. Your numbers depend on your network and your data, so we quote the change, not a promise.
- Counts
- Round trips, requests and jobs at once are read from the code before and after the change, so they hold everywhere.
- The calendar
- Built from the history of the CaseWizard codebase: one square per day since May, counting work by people and leaving out automated updates.
- Nothing changes for you
- Performance work keeps every result, order and error message the same. If a screen shows something different, that is a bug and we want to hear about it.
See it with your own cases.
We set the demo up for your practice areas, walk through cases, documents, calendar and billing, and answer your questions about moving your data over.
